Why, what and how we eat.

There’s a strong connection between nutrition and psychology.

Reasons to eat

We have biological needs to feed ourselves. Babies, for example, only eat when hungry. We also have psychological and socio-cultural reasons to -or not to- eat and drink. Examples of psychological reasons are food temptation, boredom and habits.

Eating habits, mood and behavior

Eating habits affect our mood and our behavior. For example, a bad mood or feeling tense by skipping meals or irregular eating. And therefore have a blood sugar level that is too high or too low. Scientific research shows that people with the best humor have normal blood sugar levels.

Nutrients, mood and behavior

There is also connection between nutrients, mood and behavior. For example, when we do not eat enough. The energy shortages will cause the functioning of the brains to be less efficient. Someone for example may experience problems focussing or start forgetting things. (Netherlands Brain Foundation).
